The Hannaford Youth Band is made up of advanced high school and university level brass and percussion players. It is one of three bands of the Hannaford Youth Program that is operated under the auspices of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, a world-renowned, award-winning, professional brass band that has been active in the Toronto community since 1983. Activities include our concert season at the Church of the Redeemer, a side-by-side concert with the HSSB, our annual Rising Stars Solo Competition and Young Composer’s Contest, school shows and a retreat weekend with clinics by members of the HSSB.
Many alumni of the Hannaford Youth Band have gone on to be members of both the HSSB and community brass bands in the GTA, as well as on to professional playing careers and careers as music teachers and in music administration.
