Kevin Hayward was born in Bermuda. In 1985 he moved to Toronto to study music and earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. For over 40 years, Kevin has performed in, conducted and arranged music for brass bands. While a student at the University of Toronto he joined the Canadian Staff band and was later appointed as its conductor. He served in this role for 4 years.
Other brass bands that Kevin has worked with, either as performer, conductor or clinician, include: the Orillia Silver Band, the Weston Silver Band, the Hannaford Street Silver band, the Hannaford Street Silver Youth Band, the International Staff band, the Amsterdam Staff band, and the Melbourne Staff band.
In addition to his work with brass bands, Kevin has performed with orchestras like the Talisker Players and the Toronto Concert Orchestra.
Kevin has served as an adjudicator for the Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival, Peterborough Kiwanis Music Festival, the Toronto District School Board Music Festival and Musicfest Canada.
Kevin has been honoured to have his arrangements performed by groups as far away as Africa and Australia and by such esteemed musicians as the New York Philharmonic Brass ensemble and jazz trombone phenom, Wycliffe Gordon.
Kevin is currently the Director of Music at the Toronto District Christian High School in Woodbridge.
